Avis P. Dyer Tohill, 78, Vincennes, passed away at 3:05 a.m. on Sunday April 27, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born on July 13, 1935, in Koleen, the daughter of Clyde O. and Etna Holmes Howell. She worked at Greene County General Hospital as a registered nurse and Worthington Pork Plant. She was proud that she and her mother help found the first Worthington Assembly of God. She is survived by her husband, whom she married March 27, 1993, Ronald Tohill of Vincennes; her grandchildren, Jill Dyer, Cheryl Noonan, Terry Browning, A. J. Dyer and Lisa Wease; and 12 great -grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Venus { Bill } Dyer on Dec. 30, 1987; her three sons, Billy Odell, Andy Jerome, Terry Lynn Dyer; a granddaughter, Jamie Hollifield; a great-grandson Jaxon Hollifield; three brothers, Russell, Clyde Curtis and Walter Howell; and five sisters, Mildred White, Marjorie Allen, Kathleen West, Gladys Yoder and Norma Duncan. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Welch and Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington. Burial will follow at Worthington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude's Hospital through the funeral home.
