Veteran Highway Employee Dies
Ernest C. Pohl of 511 Toiyabe Street died in a local hospital Wednesday morning.
Born in Austin, April 25, 1896, he has been a resident of Reno for the last 10 years.
Mr. Pohl had been employed by the Nevada Highway Department for 40 years. He worked in Carson City Headquarters as auditor before transfer to Reno.
He was a veteran of World War I, and was past commander of the American Legion Post in Carson City, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Veterans of World War I. Mr. Pohl also was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Reno and of Carson City Lodge No. 1 F & AM.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Vernita Pohl of Reno; a son, Robert Pohl of Reno; a daughter, Mrs. Elinore Kohl of Cos Cob, Conn.; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Hart of El Segundo, Calif., Mrs. Bertha Preston of Sparks, and Mrs. Gertrude Lansing of Elsinore, Calif.; he also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Walton Funeral Home with the Rev. Vernon E. Kotter of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic section of Mountain View Cemetery. Friends may call at Walton Funeral Home Thursday.

Ernest Pohl
Ernest Clinton Pohl, 64, an employee of the Nevada State Highway Department for the last 40 years, died at a local hospital yesterday morning. He lived at 511 Toiyabe St.
Born in Austin, Nev., he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pohl. There were nine in the family.
He attended schools in Austin and obtained his first job with veteran Lander County clerk Bert Acree. In 1918, he enlisted with the Marine Corps and spent one year during World War I serving in France.
After discharge from the service, he worked for the Nevada State Highway Department as a timekeeper in 1920 and was later promoted to the position of auditor. Three years ago, he was transferred to the Reno division.
Mr. Pohl was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, past commander of the American Legion in Carson City, veteran of World War I, and a member of the Carson City Lodge No. 1 F & AM.
He is survived by his widow, Vernita Pohl of Reno; a son, Robert Craig Pohl of Reno; and a daughter, Elinore Pohl of Coscob, Conn. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Emma Hart of El Segundo, Calif., Mrs. Bertha Preston of Sparks and Mrs. Gertrude Lansing of Elsinore, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, to which friends are invited, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, in the Sierra Chapel of Walton Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon E. Kotter of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd officiating.

Funeral services for Ernest C. Pohl were held Friday afternoon in the Sierra Chapel of Walton Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon E. Kotter of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery where commital services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Kotter.
Pallbearers were Harold Greenbaugh, Lyle Smith, Charles Blaker, Len Hancock, Herbert Squures and William Cunningham.
