Married to Drusilla Wright on March 12, 1856 in Parke County, Indiana.

James and Drusilla were the parents of Isabella Burson(1857-unk), William Burson, Emily Burson(1860-unk), Rachel A Burson(1863-1886) and Sarah Ellen Burson Simmons(1872-1949).

James C Burson, a veteran of the Civil War, having served in Company E, 156th Indiana Infantry, departed this life January 5, 1921, at the age of 92 years, 6 months, and 17 days, at the home of his daughter, Mrs Elmer Simmons, after an illness of more than two months.

The deceased was born in Brook County, Virginia, on June 19, 1828.

When four years of age his parents moved to Indiana, where, in the year of 1856, March 12th, he was united in marriage to Miss Drucilla Wright, and they moved with his family to Miami county, Kansas, where he spent most of his life.

To this union were born five children, four daughters and one son, the mother and three of the daughters having preceeded him to the other world.

He was converted some 40 years ago and united with the Baptist Church of Doby Springs in 1916, having lived a useful life, loved by all who knew him.

The last six years he spent in Harper county, Oklahoma.

Left to mourn his death are Mrs Ella Simmons, of Doby Springs, and William Burson, of Miami county Kansas, four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, besides a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Rose Hill Baptist Church by Rev. West, Missionary of the Harper County Baptist Association.
