John Allen "Sonny" Kirkland, Sr., 75, of Hindsville, died Monday, March 30, 2009 at the V.A. Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born December 31, 1933 in Marcella, Arkansas, to Robert Allen and Sarah Olevia Sherrill
Kirkland.

Mr. Kirkland served in the Army, and then worked in the trucking industry retiring from J.B. Hunt Transport. He was a member of Faith Assembly of God in Springdale. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, and will be remembered for his great sense of humor. His sister, Linda Kay Hicks, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta Ella (Jenner) Kirkland of the home; 4 children, John Allen Kirkland, Jr. and wife Dawn of Springdale, Brenda Kay Watson and husband Donnie of Hindsville, David Keith Kirkland and wife Jenifer of Springdale, Christina Vonne Mahan and husband Lee of Batesville; 6 brothers, Dean Kirkland and Ronald Kirkland both of Louisiana, Robert Kirkland of Tennessee, Donald Kirkland and Timmy Kirkland both of Mississippi, Tommy Kirkland of Truman; 8 sisters, Yvonne Halfacre of Jonesboro, Annie Timms of Missouri, Paulette Wilson, Patricia Bishop, Betty Jane Bishop, Peggy Hanna, Nancy Kirkland and Angie Floyd all of Trumann; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Heritage Funeral Home in Springdale. The family will be present.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, at Faith Assembly of God in Springdale with Pastors Billy Burks and Jon Davis officiating. Interment will be at Friendship Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lee Mahan, Lee Watson, Shane Kirkland, Travis Kirkland, Brent Kirkland and Rocky Watson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Greenlee and Earnie Greenlee.
