Charles, known as Charley by family & friends, married married Eunice Catherine "Kate/Nicey" Counts in Russell Co, VA on April 11, 1883.

On June 12, 1900,
Charlie V. & Kate N. Self, ages 43 & 35, owned a farm in Castlewood, Russell Co, VA. They had been married 17 years; Kate had given birth to 4 children, all whom were living. They were Ella B., age 15; Nannie U., 11; Fannie A., 9; & Dacy I., 6. Wm. Eastridge, age 25, single, a house carpenter, was boarding with them.
On April 22, 1910,
Charley B. & Kate Self, ages 52 & 45, were still on their farm in Castlewood. They had been married 27 years; Kate had given birth to 5 children, all whom were living. Dacy & Roy B., ages 16 & 6 were the only children at home. Charley was still farming to support them.
Charley died from Pneumonia on November 7, 1910.
