EDMUND PATE, Ex-Fireman, Dies.
Edmund Pate, 74, of 85 Hill Street, who served as second engineer of the Biddeford Fire Department for several years during the period that Eugene T. Ricker was chief engineer, died at the Trull Hospital Sunday afternoon, where he had been a patient for the past eight days.
He was born in Biddeford, the son of Thomas and May (Hill) Pate. After being a call member and second assistant engineer of the local fire department for a long period of time, he retired 5 years ago. After being employed as a machinist in the Saco-Lowell Shops for 55 years, he retired because of failing health 4 years ago. He was an active member of the Christ Episcopal Church and men's organizations affiliated with the parish.
Surviving relatives are his wife, the former Mary Jane Clayton; two sons, Thomas of Saco, and James of New York; two daughters Mrs. Jennie Brosnanof Thorndike, MA, and Mrs. Evelyn Elinthrop of Holyoke, MA; six grandchildren; two brothers, James of Biddeford andThomas Jr. of Saco; and a sister, Mrs. Ann Tibbetts of Biddeford.
The body is at the F.X.Emond Funeral Hime corner of Hill and Pool Streets, where friends may call previous to funeral services to be held at Christ Episcopal Church Tuesday afternoon at 2 PM.
The flag on the central fire station has been ordered placed at half mast by Acting Fire Chief Frank Cantara out of respect for Mr. Pate. He will be interred in Woodlawn Cemetery, Biddeford.
