James A. Sublett, 86, of Columbia died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 W. Business Loop 70, with the Rev. Robert Lively officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at the funeral home.
Mr. Sublett was born April 3, 1915, in Boone County to Samuel and Lily Lyons Sublett.
He married Eva Deane Varvel on March 26, 1940, in Jefferson City, and she preceded him in death.
He graduated from Hickman High School in 1934 and lettered in football.
He served in the Pacific with the Navy during World War II. He was employed with B.D. Simon Construction for 40 years as a superintendent and was a member of the Carpenter's Union.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He also was a member of the American Legion and VFW Post No. 280. He coached little league baseball.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Sublett of Bloomington, Ill., and Jim Sublett Jr. of Columbia; two daughters, Marcia Johnson of Springfield and Jeanne Romenius of Derby, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He also was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.
Memorials are suggested to American Legion Post No. 202, 600 South Legion Lane, Columbia, Mo., 65201; or VFW Post No. 280, 1509 Ashley, Columbia, Mo., 65201.
