Alice Irene Benson, daughter of Iver of and Martha (Morud) Benson, was born June 23, 1925 in Rockham, SD. Shortly after her birth, Alice's family moved to Astoria, SD where she grew up. She graduated from Astoria High School in 1943. After her graduation, Alice moved to Sioux Falls and on September 2, 1945 she married Kenneth Olson at First Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls where Alice worked for Brown and Saenger as a secretary. She then worked for First National Bank as a proofreader until 1955. She then worked as a tutor for Eugene Field Elementary School for 25 years. She retired in 1985 at the age of 60.
In her retirement she worked for the McCrossan's Boys Ranch and also tutored children out of her home. In her free time she enjoyed painting and sewing and was a very active member at Grace Lutheran Church. Alice loved to spend time with her family and was a very dedicated grandmother who took pride in going to watch all of her grandchildren in the various sporting events they were in. She will be greatly missed.
Grateful for having shared her life her husband, Kenneth Olson, Sioux Falls; sons, Milo (Ellie) Olson and Myron (Sandra) Olson, both of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Stacy (Eric) Gorman, Sioux Falls, Chris Olson, Nashville, TN, Chad Olson and Mark Olson, both of Sioux Falls; great-granddaughters, Grace Olson, Nashville, TN and Brooke Gorman, Sioux Falls; brother, Chester (Opal) Benson, Clear Lake, SD; and sister, Esther (Bob) Stratton, Sioux Falls.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Iver and Martha Benson; daughter, Lola Ann; and brothers, Barney, Melvin, Arnold, Clifford and Norman.
