Rake, Abraham

The following information came from the Washington County Public Library in Marietta, Ohio from Chris Painter a fellow FAG member. The information is from a book or ducument titled Rack, Racke and Raike and Allied Families, author unknown, over 100 pages. The document from Marietta Township, Washington County, Ohio is from fellow FAG member Susie from Missouri.

Abraham Rake born 1780 (in) Pa. Possibly on the tract of land "Love of Water" on Buffalo Creek, Donigal Twp. Wash. Co. Pa. which was surveyed on June 18, 1875. This was the 107 acres that Abraham and Susanna sold (gave) to Lawrence Simmence/Simons in 1802. Presumably John (Johann Phillipp Racke) had died and left it to son, Abraham.

Court records show Abraham Rake indenture date 10 Aug 1802. Abraham married Susanna Simons about 1800 in Pa. She was born about 1785 Wash. Co. Pa. Died 6 Dec 1862 Monroe Co. Ohio, age 79. Listed Liberty E.U.B. Church, listed Lawrence Baptist Cemetery. Her father was Larence Simons who died in Pa. They moved from York Co. Pa. to Donigal Twp then to Monroe Co. Ohio by 1820. Abraham died 9 Feb 1869 (on) 6 April 1860 Elk Twp. Monroe Co. Ohio. Age 80, Lawrence Baptist Cemetery.

Children:

Anna Rake born 1802
John Rake born 1806. died 1875 Wash. Co. Pa.
Jacob Rake born 1808
Frederick Rake born 1811
Abraham Rake born 1814
Mary (Polly) Raike born 1816
Daniel Rake born 3 Jan 1818. Died 14 May 1892
Susanna Rake born 1 June 1820/1822. Died 2 Dec 1896
David Presley Rake born 18 Aug 1821/1824 Monroe Co. Union Twp. Ohio. Died 22 Oct 1864 Topeka, Kansas. Buried there.
Isaac Rake born 17/24 Jan 1826. Died 22 Feb 1901
Elijah Rake born 1828
Betsey Rake born 1831
Katy Rake born 1833

Married Suzanne Simion (1783 to December 6 1862). As you can see the spelling of first and last names differ from noted above but very common for the time period. There is also a difference in her date of birth however dates of death do match.

The document from the Marietta Township, Washington County, Ohio shows an A. Rake (believed to be this Abraham Rake) passing at the age of 80 yrs old as of the 1st of June 1860. This date of death is different than what my nephew, Samuel Eugene Raike, which showed his date of death as 2/9/1869 which would make him 89 yrs old. Date of death changed to April 1860.

I guess any of us who are decendants of Abraham & Suzanne are thankful they spent so much time together. 14 children, imagine that! Seems like Abraham being born on that tract of land called "Love of Water" caused him to love somthing else too!

Thank you great-great-great grandfather.
