PERHAM, Minn. -- Evelyn C. Ternus, 85, of Perham, Minn., died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at the Virginia Regional Center in Virginia, Minn.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dent, Minn., with the Rev. Jerry Nordick officiating. Burial is at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, rural Perham.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Monday with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Schoeneberger Funeral Home at Perham. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Perham was born Oct. 7, 1915, to Edward and Clara (Hemmer) Bender in Cornlea. She married Arthur Ternus on May 1, 1934, in Cornlea. They moved to Minnesota in 1951 and were members of the St. Joseph's Catholic Parish south of Perham and then of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Dent.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Christian Mothers and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Among her hobbies were sewing, crocheting and painting. She loved flowers and gardening.
Survivors include eight sons, Leroy (Jackie) Ternus of Duluth, Minn., Dean (Karen) Ternus of Mesa, Ariz., Gerald (Kay) Ternus of Stillwater, Minn., Robert (Eloise) Ternus and Gilbert (Teresa) Ternus, all of Perham, Duane Ternus of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Wayne Ternus of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Douglas (Lori) Ternus of Isanti, Minn.; four daughters, Marlene (Gene) Krekelberg of Eveleth, Minn., Bonnie (Donald) Krekelberg of Plymouth, Minn., Betty (Robert) VanYsseldyk of Maple Grove, Minn., and Joyce (Dennis) Saewert of Champlin, Minn.; three brothers, Leonard Bender of Cornlea, James (Carol) Bender of Omaha and Kenneth (Betty) Bender of Columbus; sister, LaVerna Alexander of Columbus; daughter-in-law, Eileen Ternus of Dent; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Melvin Ternus; infant son, James Ternus; three brothers, Howard, Robert and Donald Bender; and two sisters, Eileen Fisher and Phyllis Bender.
