Sarah was the daughter of Robert Hodges [1747-1832] and Elizabeth ? [1752]. The Hodges were prominent and numerous in Franklin County.

The Richards, Hodges, Warren, and Stewart families lived in the area 6.4 miles south east of Rocky Mount [between Sydnorsville and Sontag]. The families were friends and intermarried in the late 1700s.

Sarah's sister, Mary "Polly" Hodges, who married Brice Stewart, lived and was buried in Polk County Missouri.

Sarah married Waitman Richards, son of Edward Richards and Elizabeth Stewart, on January 11 1797 in Franklin County Virginia.
