JoAnn Holmes, 72, of Dowagiac, Mich.,passed away on March 9 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Ind. She was born on Oct. 7, 1936 in Sedan, N.M. to the late Louis and Pauline (Cozby) Hayes.
In 1956 JoAnn married George M. Holmes at a ceremony in Salome, Ariz. They divorced in 1984 but remained great friends throughout her life.
She enjoyed sewing, turquoise jewelry, plants, watching humming birds, listening to country music and the special times she spent with her great-granddaughter.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Sherrill Hayes, Mimia Montijo, Jackie Stanfill, Debbie Gardner, and Mary Hayes.
She is survived by sons George L. (Zina) Holmes of Mundelein, Ill.; Vernon T. Holmes of Waukegan, Ill.; Roger A. (Barbara) Holmes of Germany; daughters Vincenza J. (Ron) Ferguson of Dowagiac, Mich.; Vanessa Fry of Dowagiac, Mich.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers Louis (Janice) Hayes of Wickenburg, Ariz.; Vernon Hayes of Congress, Ariz.; and Lucky Hayes of Glendale, Ariz.; and one sister Martha (Buck) Taylor of Okanogan, Wash.
In keeping with JoAnn's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no services.
