Debbie Hayes-Gardner, age 59, lost her battle to PSP (progressive supernuclear palsy) on April 2. She was born on August 14, 1948 to Pauline and Lois Hayes in Mayer, Ariz.
She was a native Arizonan and lived in Wickenburg her whole life. She attended grade school in the historic Little Red School House and graduated from Wickenburg High School in 1966. Debbie married her soul-mate Roy Gardner on August 6, 1966.
Debbie worked for the contract post office, Ace Hardware, and was a talented seamstress. She was very involved with Pop Warner football and was a member of Las Damas for 20 years.
Her greatest love was her husband of 42 years, her two sons, and collecting and traveling.
She is survived by her beloved husband Roy, son Shawn Gardner and wife Cindy; son Shane Gardner and wife Tonya; grandchildren Jonathan; Taylor, Austin, and Cheyenne; sisters Martha Taylor of Okanogan, Wash., Joann Holmes of Dowagiac, Mich.; brothers Louis Hayes of Wickenburg, Vernon Hayes of Congress, Lucky Hayes of Glendale; and many nieces and nephews.
Debbie has donated her body to the Brain Foundation to someday help find a cure for PSP. There will be a celebration of life on Friday, April 18 at 4 p.m. at the Rancho Bar 7 back patio in downtown Wickenburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to CurePSP, The Society for Progressive Supernuclear Palsy, Executive Plaza III, 11350 McCormick Road Suite 906, Hunt Valley, MD 21031. The Web site is www.curepsp.org.
