Howard Samuel Collett

Howard Samuel Collett, age 82, died peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 1996.

He was born on July 11, 1914, in Vernal, Utah, to Sylvanus and Ethelwynne Stringham Collett. He married Fern Walkup on August 17, 1935, in Vernal. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 1, 1936.

Howard was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Vernal 1st Ward. Together with Fern, they served two Indian missions, and served in many other church callings. He loved to hunt and fish, and loved the mountains and working in the timber. He was a welder by trade and enjoyed creating beautiful iron works.

He loved his family very much and supported them in everything that they did. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

Howard is survived by his wife, Fern; children, Colleen Hancock of Vernal, Utah; Floyd (Joan) of Vernal; Judy (Bud) Sheldon of Lapping, Utah; and Jack Collett of Las Vegas, Nevada; 25 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Carl Collett of Greendale, Utah; and a sister, Enid C. Rains of Vernal.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rose Collett; brothers, Wily, Orrin and Byron Collett; and sisters, Edith Hatch and Alice Snow.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 1996, at 11 a.m. in the Vernal 1st-5th-9th Ward Chapel, 250 North 200 West. Friends may call on Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the Hullinger-Jolley Funeral Home and on Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Maser-Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hullinger-Jolley Funeral Home.
