Edna Collett Raines, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Maeser, June 1, 2006. She was born April 2, 1916 in Vernal to Sylvanus and Ethelwynne Stringham Collett.

She attended schools in Vernal, spent two years in New York City, and later graduated from BYU as a teacher. She starting her teaching career in 1939 at the old Central School in Vernal.

Edna married Adrian A. Raines, June 13, 1943, in Ely, Nevada. While Adrian was in the service they moved several times and after discharge they settled in Vernal. They had 5 children and later adopted another son.
Edna taught school for many years in Vernal and always remembered and cared about the students she taught. She retired in 1980 from Uintah School District. After retiring from teaching school, she was called to serve a full time mission in Columbus, Ohio.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in various callings. She was a temple worker for 18 years, first in the Provo Temple and then in the Vernal Temple.
Her life was one of service. She taught many adults to read, enjoyed volunteering daily at the Golden Age Center, and quietly provided for those in need.
Edna is survived by three daughters, Janice (Bob) Hunting, Adreana (Keith) McDonald, and Darlene (Errol) Burns, all of Vernal; and by one son, Robert Joseph (Julia) Raines, currently residing in China. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adrian; two sons, Paul Collett Raines, and Carnel A. Raines. She was the last surviving child of her family and was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters, Wiley Collett, Orin Collett, Alice Collett Snow, Byron Collett, Annie Collett, Claude Collett, Howard Collett, Edith Collett Hatch and Carl S. Collett.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 6th at the Ashley-Maeser Chapel. Interment was at the Maeser Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Thompson Blackburn Mortuary.
