Funeral to be Held Tomorrow P.M.
Mrs. Ella Lee mauk, 74, prominent Americus woman, died of a long illness in her home this morning at 4:20 o'clock.
Funeral services will be conducted from the residence Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock with the Rev. John R. Joyner, pastor of Central Baptist Church, and the Rev. M. P. Cain, pastor of Americus Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in oak Grove cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Mauk observed their 59th wedding anniversary on January 10.
Surviving are her husband, J. J. Mauk; three daughters, Mrs. A.W. Marshall, Macon; Mrs. C. H. Quarterman, Charleston, S.C: Mrs. Inez Reeves, Americus; one son, John mauk, Americus; one brother, J.C. Dixion, Americus, besides several grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be: W.B. MeCorkle, T.E. Bolton, James W. Smith, J. N. Morgan, Sam McDaniel, Evan Mathis, John Quarterman and J. I. Peole.
Local Seaboard Air Line railway employees will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Americus Undertaking company will be in charge of arrangements.
Nicknames and how she got her name:
How she got her name:: According to a letter written by Elam Lee to his wife Sarah- She asked him to name their baby girl. Elam chose ELLEN and the baby's Uncle Till chose CALEDONIA because he liked the name. Even thought she was given her mother's middle name of Ellen, she went by "ELLA". Sometimes she used the nickname of "Callie".
Her parents are Elam Lee and Sarah Beckwith/Beckworth, Maternal grandparents- Hansel Beckworth and Caroline Carter.
Paternal grandparents- Thomas Lee and Elizabeth "Betsy" Allen.
