Americus Times Recorder 20 Dec 1910

DEATH OF MRS WOMACK
AT THE AGE OF 68 YEARS
"Mrs S A Womack, aged 68 years and a resident of Americus, died yesterday after an illness of some length. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs Eula Mauk, and two sons, Messrs H E Womack and J C Dixon. The funeral, conducted by Rev R L Bivins, will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at Salem Church, Americus.

Obit Courtesy of Margot Hudson.

By all accounts, Sarah was married four times. She married:

1. Joseph G. Goodson
2. Elam Lee
3. James Dixon
4. William G. Womack. She was his second wife.

Name Joseph G. Goodson
Spouse's Name Sarah Beckworth
Event Date 12 Jan 1860
Event Place Schley, Georgia

Spouse: ELAM LEE
Marriage: 23 JUN 1861 , Jefferson, Arkansas
Husband Age at Marriage: 28
Wife Age at Marriage: 19

Name James Dixon
Event Type Marriage License
Event Date 17 Apr 1866
Event Place Rusk, Texas, United States
Spouse's Name Sally Lee

Name William G. Womack
Event Type Marriage
Event Date 29 Mar 1874
Event Place Schley, Georgia, United States
Spouse's Name Sallie Dixon

After his death in 1892, she and her son Hansel Eugene Womack moved to Americus. She is in the 1910 Census with Hansel then disappears by 1920.

More than likely she is buried in the Ellaville City Cemetery near her last husband, William Gaddis Womack. (Her daughter Mary Ela is also in that cemetery and buried there only 2 years earlier.) There is an unmarked brick covered grave near Sallie's husband that is possibly her's but unconfirmed. Although she died 15 miles away in Americus, and her funeral was there in Salem Church, the Oak Grove Cemetery sexton's report does not list her there, where her son was buried and listed 12 years later. (Not being listing in the sexton's report is not necessarily evidence of non-burial, but it should be noted that a person with that surname was listed there earlier that year of 1910.)

James Dixon
Birthdate: circa 1840
Birthplace: Texas, United States
Death: Died 1868
Immediate Family:
Husband of Sarah "Sallie" Beckworth
Father of James Carter Dixon
