Paul A. "Paupie" Hummel Jr., 82, of 1434 E. Queen Street, Annville, died Wednesday March 4, 2009, in the Lebanon VA Medical Center Hospice. He was the husband of Edith E. Birch Hummel, to whom he was married to for 62 years. Born in Myerstown on June 4, 1926, he was the son of the late Paul A. Sr. and Miriam Heisey Hummel. He retired from the forge department at Bethlehem Steel Corp., Lebanon, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a gunner's mate aboard the USS California. He was a member of the Sandhill Christian Union Church, an avid roller skater, and played Santa Claus for 23 years at the Lebanon Valley Mall and in the Lebanon Holiday Parade. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Barry L. Hummel of Lebanon; and two daughters, Brenda L., wife of Floyd Steele of Lebanon, and Bonita Wanamaker of Lebanon; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia, wife of Charles Gamler of Lebanon. Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009, at 12:30 p.m. in Sandhill Christian Union Church, 1000 Laurel Street, Lebanon, PA 17046. Inurnment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to his church or VA Medical Center Hospice, 1700 S.
