1870 US Census, Pike Co., GA find William Newton, age 25, his wife, Ann Newton, age 21, along with their daughters, Lula Newton, age 3, and Alice Newton, age 1.
1880 US Census Pike Co., GA in dwelling 36. Barnesville William N. Newton, age 38, and his wife, Martha A. Newton, age 35, along with children are at home. The children are Lula Newton, age 13, Alice Newton, age 11, James Newton, age 9, Leora Newton, age 7, William Newton, age 5, Anna Newton, age 3, and Emma Newton 8 months old.
Mrs W N Newton died at her home on Brown Avenue, Wednesday night last. She was about 70 years old and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. Before her marriage Mrs Newton was a Miss Weathers. Mrs Newton's health had been failing for some time and her death was not unexpected.
The funeral was held at the residence Thursday afternoon, Rev J F Taylor officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery. She is survived by five daugthers., Misses Anna Newton, Lue Newton, Leorea Newton, Mrs Emma Cauthern, Mrs Paul Parham and two sons, Mr Will Newton, of Griffin and Mrs Jim Newton of Thomaston.
