Funeral services for Wilbur E. Alexander will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, in the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin with Reverend Carol C. Turner and Reverend Michael Tyson officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home.

Wilbur E. Alexander, CPA, age 68, passed away at his residence in Lufkin on February 28, 2009.

Wilbur was born to Dee and Lorene Alexander in Rusk County on August 13, 1940. He graduated from Mt. Enterprise High School and Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in 1965. He completed the requirements necessary to receive a Certified Public Accounting certificate in August 1966. He acquired an accounting firm in September 1966 and successfully managed it through much change and growth for 40 years. In addition to his full-time responsibility with the accounting firm, he served on various professional boards and spent his spare time working with local and community organizations. Wilbur was a member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, a past president of the East Texas Chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, past board member of the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce, member of Lufkin Noon Lions Club and was previously on the board of trustees for Kurth Memorial Library. He was a board member of the Pine Crest Retirement Center and also Hospice in the Pines, in which he spent 10 years volunteering his time, primarily on the executive committee. He served as president of the Stephen F. Austin Alumni Association and was active in the Stephen F. Austin Alumni Foundation. Wilbur was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Wilbur was preceded in death by parents Dee and Lorene Alexander; sister, Hazel Alexander; father-in-law, Walter Robinson; sister-in-law, Carolyn Alexander; and son-in-law, Wheeler R. Bradley II.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Robinson Alexander; son, Brent Alexander of Plano; daughter, Emily Alexander Bradley of Spring, TX; brother, Billy Alexander and wife Nancy of Henderson, TX; brother, Willard Alexander of Tyler, TX; sister, Patsy Spears and husband Glen of Henderson, TX; brother, Mack Alexander and wife Linda of Smyrna, TN; and sister, Doris Johns and husband Gordon of Hurst, TX; mother-in-law, Lynette Robinson of Lufkin; and brother-in-law, Glen Robinson and wife MaryAnn of Houston, TX. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to all of the wonderful friends and acquaintances who have offered their love and support to Wilbur and to our family during this time. The family would like to acknowledge the special care provided by the staff of Hospice in the Pines, including Demetress, Gwen, Dellacy and Jennifer.
