Born on March 30, 1919 in Rush County, he was the son of the late Lory Thomas Hankins and Leora Sweezy. Hankins lived in the Milroy area most of his life. He married Marry Kathryn Stevens in 1940 and she preceded him in death in 1960. He married Edna (Neeley) Kincade on Aug. 30, 1979, she survives. Hankins retired in 1984 from McCorkle Stone Quarry after 46 years as a shovel operator. He was also a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by four sons, David of Rushville; Steven Jack, and Timothy Hankins, all of Elkhart, Ind.; five daughters, Mrs. Larry (Peggy) Holden, Spencer, Ind., Mrs. Daniel (Pamela) Noland, Anderson, Ind., Mrs. Ralph (Connie) Carter, Shelbyville, Ind., Mrs. Michael (Brenda) Kincade, Shelbyville, Ind., Mrs. Albert (Rose) Roberts, Jr., Shelbyville, Ind.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Avis Whittaker, Connersville, Ind.; three half-brothers, Walter Hankins, Tennessee, Calvin Hankins, Milroy, Ind., Charles Hankins, Rushville, Ind.; one half-sister, Mrs. Kenneth (June) Conover, Waldron, Ind.; four step-sons, Jerry, Michael and Dennis Kincade of Shelbyville, Ind.; and Steven Kincade, Waldron, Ind.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Harold (Beverly) Mann, Shelbyville, Ind., Mrs. Rita Barnes, home; 43 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter, five brothers, one half-brother, and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville, Ind., with Rev. Perry Fouts officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will take place on Oct. 13 at the Richland Cemetery in Rush County, Ind.
