William Clifton

Son of William and Mary "Polly" Clifton. Just before William was born his father left for his home in England. He was never heard from again. Mary was previously married to William Sprouls. The Clifton originally came from England. Before coming to McKendree township they lived in Belmont County, Ohio. Although William Sprouls died in Belmont, Ohio his children from his marriage to Mary came to McKendree and some of them are buried in McKendree cemetery. Descendants of this family also still live closeby.

William Clifton's wife Jane Brown Clifton is a daughter of Jacob and Ann Brown who are also buried at McKendree. Jacob's father Abraham Brown and mother are buried at Brownstown Cemetery which is just a few miles east of Westville and north of McKendree.
