Eliza Jane was the daughter of Philip Wertenberger and Susanne Elizabeth Harter.
She married Steven Hill on 17 Jan 1866 upon his return from Civil War service. Five children were born to them, Ellsworth, Philip Tecumseh, Oved W., Titus Mathew and Florence Adella. Steven died in 1878 only six months after Della's birth.
In 1883 Eliza married Thomas Gamble, Jr. and to this marriage were born four children, Lulu May, Henry Roscoe, Tezzie Rosella and Orville Herman.
Eliza died in 1919 and was buried in the South Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery on land donated to the church by the Gamble family.
