Mary Coblentz passes away. - Services for mother of 15 to be held Friday.
Mrs. Mary Ellen Coblentz, 90, widow of Normand Coblentz, died at her late residence, 124 Caroline street, Union City, at 12:05 a. m. Wednesday following a serious illness of about one month.
Mrs. Coblentz was born in Muncie, Delaware county where the Muncie Home hospital now stands, August 13, 1849. She was the daughter of Thomas and Candis Sutton. On December 24, 1863, she was united in marriage to Norman Coblentz. The union was blessed with fifteen children 14 of this number successfully raised to manhood and womanhood. One daughter, Sarah Jane, died in infancy. The deceased was a member of the Lisbon church, northwest of Union City.
Survivors include 11 children of her family of 15, Mrs. Alva Hampshire, John Coblentz and Harry Coblentz, all of Union City; Charles Coblentz, Darke county; Norman Austin Coblentz of Cottage Grove, Oregon; Nathan K. Coblentz, Greenville, O.; Mrs. Martha Mock, Redkey; Mrs. Lilly Midlam, Redkey; Jessie Coblentz, south of Hillgrove, O.; Mrs. Ola Penrod, of Bluffton, and Mrs. Emma Cain, of Carning, California. Children deceased are Thomas Coblentz, Miss Sara Jane Coblentz, William Coblentz, and Mrs. Elizabeth Mock. Also surviving are 36 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Her husband, four children and one great grandchild preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p. m. in the Lisbon church, with Rev. Earl Lantz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be removed this evening from the Brooks Funeral home in Union City to the residence where friends may call.
