Nichlaus was born October 22, 1851 in Pupperich, Saarbrucken, Germany. He immigrated to America as a young adult and settled in Nebraska. He met Barbara Dumpert and married her there in 1882. The were parents of five children all born in Nebraska. Nick was not a healthy man and decided to move to a milder climate and chose Muenster. He was on his way to Windthorst when the train stopped in Muenster for a fuel load and he walked down the street and heard beautiful music and singing coming from a house. He decided it was here he wanted to live. He packed up his family and moved in 1895. He only live here 18 months before he passed away in 1897.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, sons Joe, Bill and Felix, and daughters Anna and Mary all of the home.
