The sad intelligence was received here Monday by the relatives of Mr. James Lewis Anderson, of Richmond, of his death at Saranac, N.Y., on last Sunday.
He was reared in this county and received his early education at the old Ruffner Institute, the predecessor of the present Martinsville High School.
Mr. Anderson taught school for three years and then entered the University of Virginia in 1883, where he received his law degree.
Among his surviving relatives are his sisters, Mrs. E. L. Williamson and Miss Kate Anderson of Martinsville, Mrs. Eugene Richardson of Farmville, and Mrs. Lucy McIntosh of Wilmington, N.C. and his brothers, Mr. S. A. Anderson of Richmond, Rev. R. C. Anderson of Montreat, S.C. and Dr. J. R. Anderson of Martinsville.
His father was the Rev. R. C. Anderson, Presbyterian minister and his mother was Miss Justina Anderson of Campbell County. The body will be brought back to Virginia and burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
