Thomas and his wife, Mildred migrated from Kentucky in 1834 to Rush County, Indiana with their daughters Antionette,Sarah Ann, and Ann Mariah and their son, James Clayton.Another daughter, Nancy, married in Kentucky and moved to Rush County about 1827. Another daughter, Malinda, married in Kentucky and stayed there before moving to Rush County between 1840 and 1850.
On 5 November 1834,Thomas purchased from Amos Dickinson, for $3250, 231 acres located four and one half south of Rushville on the Brookville road. On 30 December 1834, Thomas and Mildred deeded this farm to their only son, James Clayton for love and affection but retained a life interest.
