Edward F. Stebens, 71, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at his home in Garden City.

He was born July 24, 1937, in Garden City, to William and Gertrude Doefler Stebens. He attended Garden City High School.

After serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict and the Vietnam era, Mr. Stebens returned to Garden City where he was a master plumber in the area. He later owned and operated Me Fix It Plumbing before retiring in 1998. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Vietnam Veterans, was a Third Degree Knight with the Knights Of Columbus and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all at Garden City.

On Nov. 26, 1966, he married Janice Maureen Webb in Garden City.¬ She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Angela Hartley and Brenda Curtis, both of Garden City, and Cynthia Baker of Wichita; a brother, Willard Stebens of Fresno, Calif.; four sisters, Mary Brocker of San Angelo, Texas, Dorothy Komlofske of Garden City, Jane Kelly of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Joan Washam of Pallyup, Wash.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and James Stebens; and four sisters, Lena Irsik, Milley Glover, Lola Stoppel and Gertrude McCullough.

Vigil and rosary services was at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City. Funeral Mass was at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Burial was at Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield.
