Wendell Skovlund was born on May 28, 1929 at Bruce, SD the son of Ludvig and Minnie (Bredaken) Skovlund. He died on Sunday, October 28, 2001 from a long standing respiratory illness at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 72 years.

Wendell grew up near Bruce, SD. He farmed there most of his adult life despite losing a hand in a farming accident as a teenager. He was married to Connie Tofte. In 1990, he retired from farming and moved to Brookings.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Bruce, a member of the church choir for many years and also was a frequent soloist in the community. Wendell served on the Estelline School Board and on the Eureka Township Board for several years. He was also a member of First Lutheran Church in Brookings.

Wendell is survived by his four children, Kathleen Caron (Steve) of Aberdeen, SD, David Skovlund (Carrie) of Andover, MN, Sandra Winzenburg of Minneapolis, MN, Charlene Skovlund of Sioux falls, SD; their mother, Connie Skovlund of Brookings; eight grandchildren; one brother Howard Skovlund (Anita) of Farmington, MI; three sisters Edna Graves (Buster) of Enon, OH, Arlene Vaske (Clayton) and Ruth Vostad both of Brookings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family at Grace Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall following the committal service.
