The Houston Herald Obituary
Houston, MO
October 9, 1947, p.3

Orville Clyde DeWitt, son of Arthur and Alice DeWitt, was born in Texas County, September 13. 1920, and departed this life on October 3, 1947, at the age of 27 years and 20 days.

He was united in marriage to Geraldine Martin, February 7, 1947.

He was called into service during World War II, and served several months.

He left Raymondville a few years ago. He worked for a time for Roy Stine in the lumber business then drove a truck for Abbot Trucking Co.

The tragedy, which resulted in his death, happened near Gillespie, IL, at an intersection, as he was on his way home from work. Orville never regained consciousness.

Another young life completed, and we still believe God's ways are higher than our ways, even we will never know this side of eternity why a young man, filled with the joy of living, should be called away so young, but some time we'll understand.

One brother and two sisters died in infancy. Those who are left to mourn his passing are his young wife, whose hopes are broken; the father, Arthur DeWitt, of Raymondville; eight brothers and two sisters as follows: Marvin, of Murphysboro, Ill.; Herschel, of Nashville, Tenn.; Merle, Three Lakes, Wis.; Chloe, of Hartshorn; Melvin, Ray, Paul and Raymond, all of Raymondville; Mrs. Leon Lee and Miss Ethel, of the home; besides many other relatives and a host of friends.

His mother preceded him in death July 31, 1935.

When he was young he attended the Pilgrim Holiness Church and after moving to Raymondville he attended Friendship Church.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 5, 12:30 p. m., at the Raymondville Church by Mrs. Sadie Miles. Interment in the Friendship Cemetery under the direction of the Elliott Funeral Home of Houston.
