When the civil war broke out, 4 of William and Rosa's sons joined the confederate army, and 2 sons perished in the war. Life was difficult after the war ended, and so the family moved to Coryell County, Texas in 1871. They eventually ended up in Comanche County, Texas, where William founded the Board Baptist Church.
The children of William and Rosa were Amanda, Milton, Martha, William, Andrew, Reuben, Sarah, Mary, Eliza, Sabra, Rosey and John.
