James Moe was born in New York state to Peter and Sarah Moe. He married Permelia Ann Carrier in Brookfield, Michigan in 1845.Their first two children Perry and Hirum were born there. They slowly made their way out west. Their first stop was Kankakee. Illnois where there third son Melvin was born. In the mid 1850's they were living in Fayette County Iowa and Permelia gave birth to Joe, Chester, Adda Ann and Elsie.By this time the lure of California got to them and they moved to Paynes Creek California and James Jr. was born there.The last stop they made in California produced Ben, Laura and Richard all born in Willows. Not making their fortune in California they moved up north to Dufer, Wasco County Oregon in 1876 and farmed there until James died in 1882.
He was a farmer most of his life but did try his luck at mining. Permelia is buried in Carlton,Oregon.

he is buried...I do know that Laura their daughter died
in Alameda County California but have not located her
burial place..
