E. M. Howell passed away at 2 o'clock Sunday morning, July 14, 1935, at his residence at Fifth and Jefferson street after an illness of two years.

Edward McLinn Howell, second son of the late Dr. S.D. Howell and Martha Naomi Howell, was born at Viney Grove, Arkansas, Dec. 19, 1863. He crossed the plains to Oregon with his parents by ox team in 1869, settled at Oregon City, where he has lived most of his life.

He attended the Oregon City Seminary, followed the carpenter trade for a few years, was clerk in some of the Oregon City stores, served as conductor for several years for the Eastside Railroad Company operating between Oregon City and Portland. He resided several years in Gladstone and Milwaukie, but returned to Oregon City where he has since resided. He has served on the city council of Oregon City and has engaged in the real estate business for many years.

He was married to Miss Anna Hornschuch in 1888, who survives him and to this union were born two sons, Orey E. Howell and Ervan L. Howell, both of Oregon City. Other survivors are five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; three brothers, J. D. Howell, Corvallis; E. E. Howell, Jefferson, and T. C. Howell, Gladstone, and one sister, Miss Mary Howell, Gladstone.

Funeral services to be held at the Holman, Pace & Hankins Chapel Tuesday, July 16, at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
