The Tabers were among the earliest settlers of the White River Valley in Southern Missouri. During the Civil War Aaron Taber's mother and step-father took their family away from the Missouri-Arkansas border to escape the intense strife in that region. While living in the counties of Dallas and Laclede, northeast of Springfield, Mo., Aaron met and married Rebecca Hill.

Aaron Taber was a farmer and owned an 80 acre farm about a mile southwest of Smallett, in Douglas Co., Mo. He later bought another farm on Beaver Creek, one mile downriver from Rome, Mo. and lived there at the time of his death. Upon his death he left a will, naming his surviving children.

"Taber.-- Bro. Aaron Taber died at his home near Rome, Mo., March 22nd, 1918. He was born in Taney County, Mo., November 16th, 1847. Was married to Miss Rebecca Hill, 1870. To this union were born seven children. He leaves to mourn a wife and five children, two having preceded him. He was baptized October 26th, 1909 by Elder W. P. Bootman, confirmed by Elder W. P. Bootman and A. M. Baker. He was very patient in his affliction and was anxious to go. Funeral preached by the writer, Roland J. Mendel". [Ensign, June 6, 1918; clipping preserved by Mrs. Dora Hunt].
