FROM THE JAMES HOYT FAMILY CHRONICLE
October 1947 issue 2

James and Beulah Sabin Hoyt had a family of ten children. They were early converts to the teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

The family moved westward and witnessed the early growth of the Church, including the rise of Nauvoo, the expulsion of the Saints from Illinois, and their tragic move across Iowa to Mt. Pisgah, Garden Grove and Winter Quarters.
Two of the sons, Timothy Sabin Hoyt and Henry Hoyt joined the Mormon Battalion. They were mustered out in July 1847 near San Diego. Timothy elected to stay in California for a year, but Henry was anxious to return to his wife and children. He died on the journey back and was buried in the High Sierras by his companions.

Timothy Sabin Hoyt reached the Salt Lake Valley in the fall of 1848 and there joined his father, mother, his brother Israel and his sister Lucy, who had come to the valley with Jedediah Grants's company in October of 1847.

James Hoyt, with his sons, took up land at Mill Creek and commenced farming. Israel Hoyt located in Salt Creek, now Nephi, and in 1853, his father, James, and brother Timothy moved there. The family arrived in a blinding snow storm, March 2, 1853. Two months later on May 28, the father, James Hoyt died. Beulah Sabin Hoyt died 12 Dec 1857.
