CAVE CITY — Bobby Gene Monroe, 74, of Cave City died Jan. 31, 2009, at his residence.

The Barren County native was a lifelong farmer, served in the Navy on the USS Sellstrom and was a Methodist. He married Nancy Colvin on March 1, 1959. He was a son of the late Presley Monroe Sr. and Mossie Smith Monroe. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Gibson and Betty Wilkins; a brother, J Y Monroe; and a great-nephew, Matt Monroe.

Graveside service is at noon today at Cave City Cemetery. Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Matt Monroe Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1316, Glasgow, KY 42142-1316.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Colvin Monroe; his longtime farming partner and nephew, Sammy Monroe and his wife, Vicki, of Cave City; their children, Dana Monroe of Cave City and Sammye Jo Singer and her husband, Dustin, of Louisville; a great-great-nephew, Matthew Singer; three brothers, Junior Monroe and his wife, Joyce, and Larry Monroe and his wife, Patricia, all of Cave City, and William Monroe and his wife, Jo Ann, of Kokomo, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Monroe of Cave City; a brother-in-law, Larry Colvin of Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.
