Mr. J.Y. Monroe, 78, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at his home. The Barren County native was the son of the late Presley Sr.
and Mossie Smith Monroe. In 2004 he and his family received from the Cave City Chamber of Commerce the Excellence in Agriculture Award for Monroe Brothers Sweet Feed Mill, Inc., which he operated for 51 years. In 1993, he and his wife, Carolyn, were named Mr. and Mrs. Cave City. He was a Kentucky Colonel and member of Highland United Methodist Church. Monroe was a lieutenant in the Cave City Fire Department of which he was a member for 37 years and was awarded Fireman of the Year in 1989.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Lyles Monroe, Cave City; a son, Steve Monroe and his wife Betsy, Metropolis, Ill.; a daughter, Cassandra Monroe Rogers and her husband Mark, Cave City; a granddaughter, Lindsey Conkle and her husband J.R., Metropolis, Ill.; two great-granddaughters, Lilyanna and Libby Conkle, Metropolis, Ill.; four brothers, Presley Monroe Jr. and his wife Joyce, Cave City, Bobby Gene Monroe and his wife Nancy, Cave City, Bill Monroe and his wife JoAnn, Kokomo, Ind., Larry Monroe and his wife Patricia, Cave City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Gibson and her husband Fred, Betty Wilkins and her husband Len.

Graveside services with Pastor Donna Aros officiating will be at the Cave City Cemetery.
