Taken from The Descendents of Hugh Thomson by Donald C. Thomson:
p. 54 Hugh [Thomson] and Cynthia [Ann Bard Thomson] had six children: Hugh Caldwell, William McRobert, Leonard Samuel, Bessie Agnew, Nan Bard, and Ray Sherman.
p. 90 Hugh was born 10 Jul 1972 in a log cabin in Madison Co., Ia. When he was about 15, his father decided to relocate to a farm near Gordon, Neb. There they lived in a sod house, and there were no out buildings; living conditions were worse than what they had left behind in Ia. Hugh even attended school in a sod building before wooden buildings were erected. Hugh must have left the Sandhills of Neb., and headed for S.D. There he met Sena Marie White at the Lee and Prentice Ranch near Vermillion, S.D. They were married 19 May 1897 in Dell Rapids, Minnehaha Co., S.D. They had three children, Ethel Ruby, Hazel White, and Ruth May who were all born in Minn.
Hugh was killed in a train accident while a mail clerk; he died 31 May 1909 in Peabody, Marion Co., Kan. He was buried in Dell Rapids Cemetery.
