Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 11, at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church at Sandstone for Ray S. Thomson, 81, of Sandstone. Mr. Thomson passed away at the Pine County Memorial Hospital at Sandstone on Friday evening, July 7, after a long illness. Rev. Newton Sundeen was the officiating clergyman with Dave Dahlberg as soloist and Miss Elaine Larson as the organist. Casket bearers were Iner Carlson, Elmer Larson, Ralph Yaints, Albert Swanson, Al Van der Werf and Leslie Griffith. Burial was made in the Danforth Cemetery.

Ray S. Thomson was born at Gordon, Neb., on January 26, 1891, the son of Hugh and Cynthia Thomson. He moved with his parents to the state of Iowa at the age of five years. He was married to Eunice Bissell on June 27, 1927 at Earlham, Iowa, and the couple came to the Sand Creek community east of Sandstone the same year. Previous to this, Mr. Thomson had worked at a logging camp at Belden in 1924-26. He was a veteran of World War I and served with the AEF in France. He served on the school board of the former Sand Creek-Bear Creek District #122. He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church. The couple retired to Sandstone Village in 1963. Mrs. Thomson passed away on Oct 11, 1967. The past two years, Mr. Thomson had been a resident of the Pine County Nursing Home at Sandstone.

He leaves to mourn his passing two sons, Paul of Bowie, Maryland and Elmer of Sandstone; one daughter, Lois (Mrs. Alvan) Holmes of New Brighton. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren.
