Carl E. Seitz, 94, of Red Lion, entered into rest on Monday, February 2, 2009, at Manor Care Health Services in Dallastown. He was the husband of Marie (Sechrist) Seitz, with whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage on March 15, 2008.

Born in Felton, on June 17, 1914, he was the son of the late M. Ervin and Ruth (Lutz) Seitz.

Carl graduated with honors in 1932 from Red Lion High School and also completed a course in accounting at Penn State York Campus in 1964. After high school he learned the art of Telegraphy from his uncle, with his first assignment being in Delta in 1936. Because of frequently being called upon to do substitute Telegraph and agency work, he held the distinction of being the only telegrapher to work in every Maryland and Pennsylvania telegraph office from York to Baltimore.

Carl enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and proudly served his country until 1946, his last promotion being to Captain. He returned to work as a Telegrapher at the Red Lion Railroad Station until 1958, when he became the Board Secretary and later the Business Manager of the Red Lion Area School System. Carl resigned in 1971 to accept the Red Lion Borough Manager position and also Manager of Dallastown-Yoe Water Authority. He retired from the Borough Manager position in 1979. He was the Chairman of the Red Lion Centennial Celebration in 1980 and was also the recipient of the Catherine Meyer Award by Borough Council in 1987. He served as Chaplain for the Red Lion American Legion, was a member of Red Lion Elks Lodge 1592, Red Lion Water and Sewer Authority, Red Lion Recreation Commission, and also a member of the Board of Directors of the Kaltreider Memorial Library.

Carl's interest in poetry since his early school days produced many beautiful poems, which eventually led him to become a member of the Pennsylvania Poetry Society since 1955. He also wrote a book entitled "Poems and Prayers" which he generously gave to many friends, family, and business offices.

The ability or "knack" he had as a dowser gave him the pleasure of locating 493 wells for persons living beyond the service area of municipal water supply.

He was always an active church member confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Felton, and later a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Red Lion, serving as Sunday School Teacher, Chorister, member of Pastor Parish Relations Committee, choir member, and Associate Sunday School Superintendent.

In addition to his wife, Carl will be sadly missed by his daughter, Jane Love and her husband, Jeffrey of Windsor; three grandchildren, Daron Smith and his companion, Darlene Druck of Yoe, Tony Smith of York, and Kristen Blouse and her husband Brad of Windsor; five great-grandchildren, Kelsie, Mitchell, and Travis Smith, and Deena and Nathan Blouse; and a brother, the Rev. Joseph W. Seitz of Red Lion. Five sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

Burial will be in Windsor Cemetery with full military honors by York County Veterans Honor Guard.
