Felix Schmidt, 81, of San Angelo, died Friday, January 23, 2009 at Shannon Medical Center.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2009 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Robinett officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas.

Family visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at Stevens Funeral Home.

Felix Schmidt was born December 18, 1927 in Sweetwater, Texas, a son of the late Felix Henry Schmidt and Gertrude Teague Schmidt. He grew up in Coleman, graduating from Coleman High School in 1946. He served in the United States Army in the 40th Battalion with the Occupied Forces in Japan and Korea. Following his service to his country, Felix returned to Coleman where he worked as a salesman for Gray Merchantile and J. E. Stevens Company. He also worked for Foremost Diaries. On December 28, 1958 he married Betty Jenkins in Coleman and she preceded him in death on May 1, 2004. In 1972 he moved to San Angelo where he was the Regional Manager for the National Motor Club. He was a member of the Day Memorial Methodist Church and the Concho Bass Club in San Angelo.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Schmidt and wife Melissa of San Angelo, Tony Schmidt of San Angelo; four granddaughters, Ashley Kasper and husband Jason, Amber Matheny and husband Buster, Arika Schmidt, Whitney Schmidt; four great-grandchildren, Allyson and Austin Matheny, Madison and Jackson Kasper; many nieces and nephews; caregivers who took such care of him in his last years, Rena Smith, Kevin and Nicole Gaitan.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Marjorie Gibbs, LaNell Billings; one brother, Curtis Schmidt.
