OBITUARY

Robert Brainard Loughmiller, was born October 27, 1845, Martinsburg, Ind., and died at his home in Soldier, Kans. June 3, 1921. Being 75 years, 9 months and 6 days old. In 1855 Mr. Loughmiller came to Kansas with his parents, locating temporarily at Easton, Leavenworth county. After a short stay there he came to Jackson county where he has resided until death. He was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Martha Ann James, July 20, 1875. To this union were born five children; Harry Loughmiller, of Onaga, Mrs. May Peck, Mrs. Clara Franz, Edith and Laura Loughmiller, of Soldier. The entire family was with him at the time of his death. He is survived by a loving companion, five children and nine grandchildren, two brothers and one sister and a host of neighbors and friends.
Mr Loughmiller was seriously sick only a few hours. A long life was most suddenly brought to a close. Such a shock to the family, yet they, like heroes of the cross, stood with bowed heads, in recognition of the Divine power, and said, "it is Gods's will." The shadows gathered, as earthly ties were broken yet hope braved the mystery monster and made its claim with the poet, "God will make all come right Sometine, Somewhere." The mariner guided by the compass of faith will at last reach a stormless sea where sorrow shall be no more. Mr. Loughmiller was one of the founders of the Bucks Grove church. He has been a member of that church for over fifty years. None of us doubt his fidelity and confidence in God. He has lived among us a most beautiful life. There is no question in our minds, but what today while we weep, his angelic spirit rejoices around the great white throne of God, and reaps its reward of a well spent life. (a sort poem follows)
Sunday afternoon a short service was held at the home in Soldier and a large delegation followed the remains to Bucks Grove church where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. R.O. Gilpin, assisted by Rev. Garretson, Interment was made in Bucks Grove Cemetery. The floral offerings were many and beautuful.
His brother T.H. and sister, Mrs. Orlena Beach attended the funeral, also Harry Brownlee and two daughters, of Topeka, Jessie and LeRoy Quinton, of Dunavant, KS; John Kroth and family of Denison; Mrs. Minnie Bottom and daughter, Mary, of Onaga, and a host of other friends.
