LOUGHMILLER

Tillman Howard Loughmiller, son of Jacob and Aurelia Loughmiller, was born in New Albany, Ind. February 15, 1851, and departed this life November 22, 1931, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Tom Perry, at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 7 days.
At nine years of age he, with his parents, moved to Easton, near Leavenworth, Kansas. Seven years later the family moved as homesteaders to what is now known as the Frank Kroth farm.
In 1872 he was united in marriage with Ella Huffman of Iowa City, Iowa. They lived a long and happy life together, celebrating their golden wedding anivesary on May 15, 1922. Six years later his beloved companion departed to the home beyond.
Mr. and Mrs.Loughmiller were the parents of 13 children, 3 dying in infancy. Seven sons and 3 daughters mourn the loss of a kind and thougtful father: George of Foss, Okla., Bert of Rocky Ford, Colo; Louie of Wheatland, Wyo.; William of Hartman, Colo.; Walter, Oscar and Joe of Havensville, Kans.; Annie McDaniels of Denver, Colo.; Winnie Salisbury of Manhattan, Kans.; Nora Perry of Delia, Kans., all being present excepting Louie.
Of his brothers and sisters, all have preceded him but one brother, George Festus, of Kansas City, Mo. There are also 45 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, other relatives, and a host of friends to mourn the loss of this kindly man.
Mr. Loughmiller, coming from conscientious Christian parents, always attended church as far back as his earliest recollections.
Before his marriage he was converted and became a member of the Bucks Grove church when the meetings were still held at the school house. He was a present member of the Metodist, Mt. Olive church. He was a faithful follower of Christ through all the years, partaking of the communion last Sunday at Mount Olive, administered by our district superintendent, Dr. Grieves, just a few hours before his death.
Mr. Loughmiller has always enjoyed good health but for years had not been able to work because of a weak heart. This did not keep him from enjoying life and doing good wherever he went. He was loved by everyone for his cheerfulness, happy disposition, and loving kindness. He was never so happy as when attending church and singing the wonderful hymns about the loving Master. Words fail us when we try to express the wonderful works and deeds which were sown here and there by this venerable old man. One of his most beloved passages from the Bible was "Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life." He was ready and waiting for the call of the Master and was anxious go meet his loved ones over there.
Thus passes from among us one of our last early settlers, who will long be remembered in the hearts of the people.
The funeral services, which were largely attended by the old neighbors and friends, was held in the Bucks Grove church in charge of Rev. Paul Davis, assisted by Rev. Roy Brown of St. Marys, and Rev. J.C. Paschall of Havensville. The music by the church male quartet, as well as the ????? brought comfort.
There was something beautiful and impressive in that the six stalwart sons were the bearers who tenderly laid the father to rest in the family burying lot in Bucks Grove.
This closes the earthly record of another of those pioneers who helped to lay broad and deep the foundations which have become our priceless heritage.
