Funeral services for Mrs. Cathryn Edith (Cassie) Ballard, 83, were held Wednesday in the Methodist Church in Valentine with Rev. Warren Spellman of Valentine and the Rev. H. J. Kane of Wood Lake in charge. Bural was in Mt. Hope cemetery in wood Lake. Mrs. Ballard passed away Monday at Sandhills General Hospital. Cathryn Edith Richardson was born March 18, 1882 at Kearney, Neb. to Mr. and Mrs. Willoughby Richardson. On October 15, 1902 she was married to William Nelson Ballard. The Ballards had lived several places in the Cherry County ranch country. Mrs. Ballard had taught school at Wood Lake. She is survived by her children, Edward W., Walter G. and William, Vera Zahl, Ruth Fritz and Mary E. Parkhurst, all of Valentine, Esther M. Bridgeford of North Platte, Dudley and Homer C. (Neal) of Oregon, John of California, James E. of Grand Island and Mrs. Helen S. Eatinger of Wood Lake, 22 grandhcildren and 9 great grandchildren. Her husband and two sons, Thomas and Charles D. and a grandson, Claris Eatinger, Jr. preceded her in death. Mrs. Ballard was a member of the Royal Neighbors of Wood Lake.
