Basically an introvert, when Ruth made friends they were solid, long lasting ones. She also enjoyed her own company alone or with a book. As a child she read much, often perched on a favorite tree branch. In school she was an eager student. She and Olla were sent away to school as the local ones were less than adequate. After graduating with honors she was a teacher, a secretary and a comptometer operator. She met Alvin when both were members of a youth chorus of the LDS church in California. After marriage she spent her time fixing up the house & yard, raising 5 children & serving in the church. She enjoyed writing letters & essays & reading. She took each church assignment very seriously.
As visiting teacher or Relief Society president, she was satisfied with nothing less than 100% effort. She was ordinance worker in the Provo temple for 5 years before her final illness, without missing a single assignment.
