He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Lilly. Upon the death of his mother when he was seven years old he was taken by his maternal grandmother and they moved to Kansas the following year and settled near Roxbury. He was united in marriage to Florence Kingsley on September 23, 1891, and except for a short time in New Mexico his entire life was spent in the Roxbury community.
Mr. Lilly was a member of the Roxbury Presbyterian Church for almost sixty years and a trustee of the church for many years. He was a business man in Roxbury for over fifty years when he operated a general store. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, the Masonic Lodge, and the Woodman Lodge.
Mr. Lilly is survived by three children, Laura Karber, Roxbury; Charles Lilly, Mentor; and Laveda Lathrop, Norton. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Florence (Kingsley) Lilly, who passed away August 28, 1947, one daughter, Edith Blessing, and one son who died in infancy. His half-brother, Samuel, preceded him in death.
Mr. Lilly was an active participant in community life, a devoted husband and father, and a steadfast Christian.
