Actual birth record for Daniel Mitchell was found in the town clerk's record of Philadelphia, Rutland County, Vermont. Philadelphia eventually became part of Chittenden.

The obituary of Daniel Oliver Mitchell's wife, Eusebia (Hitchcock) Mitchell, indicated that "She lost her husband in Scott county, Iowa." The Iowa State Census taken in 1856 showed Daniel Oliver Mitchell living with his family in Le Claire, Scott County, Iowa just a few weeks before his death. Where he was laid to rest in Scott County, Iowa has yet to be determined.
