Martha Catherine (Wooden) Marple was the daughter of Isaac and Rebecca (Stephenson) Wooden. She was known as “Kitty.” She married Abbott Marple on August 27, 1866.

Mrs. Martha C. Marple, 82 years old, of 1804 Acacia St., Alhambra, California, passed away Thursday July 3rd, 1930 after an illness of one day.
She was a native of Missouri, Hill Township, Carroll County, and had lived there her entire life except for the last five and one half years she had lived with her son and daughter-in-law in Alhambra, California.
She is survived by a son, Isaac Marple of Alhambra, Calif., a brother Edward F. Wooden of near Carrollton, Missouri, and two grand daughters, Lulu Sanders and Ruby Wichman and one great grand daughter Ealnon Wichman all of Alhambra, California.
Her son accompanied her body to Missouri, arriving in Braymer, Missouri on Thursday evening July 10th. The body was taken to the home of her nephew H.W. Bunch. Next day short funeral services were conducted at the Enon Cemetery, by Rev. C.H. Sauceman of the Braymer M.E. Church.
She was laid to rest in Enon Cemetery by the side of her Deceased husband, Abbot W. Marple.
Funeral arrangements were in charge of F.A. Utter and Son Mortuary of Alhambra, California. Relatives attending from a distance were E.F. Wooden and Rush Stagner and family of Hale, Missouri and Mrs. Mary Catherine (Kate) Dunwell of Kansas City, Missouri.

Kitty Marple had a spinning wheel and she carded and spun her yarn, from which she knit socks, mittens, shawls, stockings, and other articles of clothing. She also knit lovely bedspreads.
