The funeral for Hubert Mason Ruf, 81, of Athens will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with burial in the Germantown Cemetery.


Mr. Ruf died Thursday, January 8, 2009, at Huntsville Hospital. Mr. Ruf was born December 31, 1927 to Richard Ruf and Fleecy McSherry Ruf in Limestone County.


Hubert was a U.S. Army veteran and a Korean War veteran with the 1343 Unit of Engineers, Company B, of the National Guard. Hubert attended Ardmore High School and graduated from Athens College. He was a faithful member of the First Church of God and was a strong believer of the Christian faith. He was a member of the VFW and Cattleman's Association.


He was preceded in death by a son, Kendrick Ebehard Ruf, and one sister, Opal Aycock.


Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Hazel Livingston Ruf; son, Mason Richard Ruf; grandson, Justin Wayne Ruf and Patrick James Ruf; sister, Gladys Sutton and husband Calvert, all of Athens; and a host of friends.
