Susan Franses Staub was born in Lee County, Iowa, March 9th, 1843 and passed away at her home in Bladen, Nebraska, April 13th, 1925; aged 82 years, one month and 4 days.
She grew to womanhood in Iowa and was united in the Holy bonds of matrimony to William Andrew Baker November 30th, 1867.
To this union nine children were born, six girls and three boys, of whom one girl and two boys in their childhood preceded her to the great beyond.
Those surviving her are: William A. of Holdrege, Nebr. Carrie L., John L., Luelle and Joseph H. of Bladen, Nebr., and Dr. Frank L. of Hildreth, Nebr.
In 1878 the family moved to this vicinity and like all early settlers endured the hardships of pioneer life.
In February 1893 the family moved to Bladen and this has been her home ever since.
Her husband passed away in 1897 and was laid to rest at Prairie Gem.
During the revival services conducted by Rev. G.W. Hummell she gave her heart to God, and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church on August 11th, 1895 and remained a true and faithful member of the same until God called her to her reward.
Besides the children she leaves to mourn her departure seven grandchildren and two sisters Mrs. Mary Nutt of Plymouth, Wisc. and Mrs. Christiana Hambpeh of West Burlington, Iowa and one brother A.M. Staub of West Point, Iowa: and a host of friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist Episcopal Church in Bladen Nebr. Wednesday afternoon April the fifteenth 1925. Her pastor Rev. Henry F. Martens, officiating. After which the interment was made in the Prairie Gem Cemetery (Cloverton).
